What are you listening to?

Just thought I'd start a thread to see what kind of music everyone is into...
Myself, I'm a Radiohead fanatic and can't get enough of their new album "In Rainbows" at the moment but I think I'm going to have to wean myself off it and listen to something else for a change! Other bands/artists I listen to a lot include The Beatles (obviously), Oasis, Neil Young, Wilco, Bob Dylan, Blur, Broken Social Scene, The Smiths, Sigur Ros. There are many other bands which I won't list (my last.fm page keeps track
http://www.last.fm/user/sjcoutts/
).

I still live with my parents, so whatever my sister is listening to... because I don't really have a choice in the matter (or the volume)

I really dig Radiohead too. I could listen to nothing else by Karma Police for the rest of my life, and still be happy.
Right now I'm listening to that psycho killer song by the Talking Heads. I also just heard Made of Stone by Spiral Beach, and Blister in the Sun by the Violent Femmes...and earlier Neko Case, Cat Power, Brazillian Girls, Peaches, Interpol, She Wants Revenge, Metric, that Joy Division cover song by the Killers... All good picks. What a good little electronic, my ipod has been this evening. I also recently enjoyed some Fiona Apple (her Across the Universe cover is pure magic), Arctic Monkeys, and The Decemberists.

Sometimes I find there's nothing more liberating than putting my iPod on shuffle. I have so much stuff on it that I often forget about a lot of it.
I like Arctic Monkeys although I didn't care too much for their last album. I saw them open for Oasis in Toronto last year and they were awesome!

I listen to a lot of stuff. Everything from rock to punk, a bit of metal, hardcore, post-hardcore, 'emo', if you must describe it as that. But, I like the more traditional emo stuff as well as the newer stuff. I spent the majority of my high school years listening to Japanese visual kei, which is perhaps the most bitchy fandom of all time, and which I still occasionally listen to. When shopping in Vancouver, I hit the jackpot in Bookoff, a Japanese all-purpose entertainment store that was three minutes from my hotel. 16 J-rock cds for an average of $7 each. Pretty good when you consider that the average price that I used to pay for J-rock was around $55 per cd when the Canadian dollar was poor.
I'm also a concert fiend, and a vinyl collector. I've got 69 albums, and 5 singles. See my Recordnerd collection here:

For concert goers, I have a few fun questions.
1. What is the most interesting thing you've every done at a concert?
I was sprayed with dark blue food colouring until I was drenched in it. I looked like Smurfette (during GWAR).
2. What was your first crowd-surf, if any?
First crowd surf was during Silverstein's set at the Rise Against concert on July 16th, 2007.
3. What was your first, and your most recent concert?
First concert- The Crash Test Dummies (I was six), Last concert- GWAR (November 12th)
4. Ever been to any festivals?
Warped Tour, 2006 in Calgary, and 2007 in Montreal. I don't know if Taste of Chaos counts, but I've been to that twice as well.

1. What is the most interesting thing you've every done at a concert?
Can't say I've ever done anything particular interesting at a concert.
2. What was your first crowd-surf, if any?
Never done that either. Mostly because the concerts I go to don't have crowd-surfing.
3. What was your first, and your most recent concert?
First was the Backstreet Boys (I was 10 and I was forced to go with some people!). Last was Modest Mouse on Nov. 7th.
4. Ever been to any festivals?
No, but I want to go to Glastonbury and possibly Bonnaroo at some point....
I've lost count of how many CD's I have but I think I have somewhere around 230. I have exactly 2 vinyl records (Led Zeppelin II, Elton John - Madman Across The Water) although I will be getting Radiohead - In Rainbows on vinyl in the mail very soon....

I have a feeling that Bangers 'n' Mash is gonna be epic....
Fun fact: I was at the concerts in Toronto when they played Down Is The New Up for the first time ever. Those were two of the best nights of my life!

I was into Burt Bacharach when I was all your ages. *grin* I seem to be working backward as NOW, I am into the Beatles, heavy duty. I read a lot of their first hand or original conversations and find Derek Taylor, their press agent quite cool. I like his morality. If you'd asked which Beatle I'd have wanted to speak to, I'd have said Derek. Sadly, he died in 1997, less than a month after Princess Diana. I find that a tad cosmic, to be honest, as it's around the time I decided to move out this way, from Toronto.
Funny, that.
When I was a kid, I didn't particular dig the Beatles. I imagine it had more to do with being inundated on the radio with it. And I also saw hippies as 'grubby' (which by the time I was totally aware of them, in their psychedelic phase, I saw them as--though I DO seem to remember watching Beatle cartoons, when I was younger still *grin*)
Funny, that, too.
*grin*
Anyone play any instrument? I sing pretty good. Anyone know any Beatles tunes? I'd be up for singing Beatles shite. *grin*

They're supposed to be touring North America around May/June. I'm already saving up and am hoping to go to a bunch of shows. I would probably have a heart attack if they announced they were coming to Winnipeg....I highly doubt it though. The only places they usually come in Canada are Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.
