...Or 'films'. I am a big fan of the big screen. It is one of my major past-times. That and drinking tea. I'm like the most elderly twenty-something ever.

Anyway, I'm curious as to what you interesting people have enjoyed (recently or not). I saw "No Country For Old Men" this week. It was amazing. Bloody and spooky. I like those directors/ writers who go out and explore characters. So I'd recommend it.

I also recently saw "The Lives of Others" on tv. Also incredible. To imagine living in a world like that...man. Another one I want to tell everyone I know to watch, but it does require subtitle reading (unless you understand German).

One of my all time favourites that randomly comes to mind is "Mulholland Drive". I don't think even David Lynch knew what he was saying with that one, but good times all the same.

So any other suggestions?

I don't usually watch a lot of recent films, but my favorites of all time are "Goodfellas" and "Star Trek VI:  The Undiscovered Country" (yes, I am a nerd)

Owing to some strange situations, I've watched a lot of new videos the past while.

What other kinds of stuff do you like, January?

The Prestige was one that got me. You seen that?

And I REALLY liked Zodiac.

Zodiac and Prestige were both quite enjoyable. I really liked David Bowie as Tesla. And Jake Gyllenhaal always...naturally!

I also saw The History Boys recently. I like films that don't stray too far from plays (especially if they're adaptations from plays).

Charlie Kaufman stuff is always good. Ditto Gondry stuff, and War Kong Wai (I have to go double check that spelling)...I'm a fan of contemporary surrealism.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of my favourite movies and it has both Gondry and Kaufman.

I thought The History Boys was pretty good. I quite enjoy British films.

I am also a huge fan of Wes Anderson's movies. I like them in this order: The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, The Life Aquatic, The Darjeeling Limited (haven't seen Bottle Rocket but I hope to soon).

I also like Sofia Coppola: Lost in Translation, The Virgin Suicides, and Marie Antoinette.

One that I saw recently that I loved was Into The Wild. I read the book last year and thought it was amazing and I was hoping the movie would do it justice. Well I wasn't disappointed at all; Sean Penn did a great job.

"How the fuck am I funny!?!?!". Joe Pesci is such a psycho in that movie and also in Casino.

(yes, I am a nerd)

It's okay, the first step is admitting you have a problem.....Wait, that's the fucking twelve step program....Nevermind.

When I first saw Eternal Sunshine, I was so obsessed with it. I watched it like a trillion times. What a cute movie. Kaufman totally has a thing for Pope's version of Abelard and Heloise (also seen in Being John Malkovich). A&B is my favourite love story ever.

And yeah, I agree 100% with Wes Anderson and S. Coppola. Marie Antoinette was so underrated. I love her theme of exploited, misunderstood young women.

Bottle Rocket is really cool. It sets up the rest of the films so nicely, but the characters are these lower-class 'regular' guys. Except crazy, obviously. Definitely one to see.

Anyway, I'm convalescing from surgery for the next several days, so I'll be sure to watch many many movies.

I'm going to rewatch Waitress today (with Kerri Russell). It's adorable. Also, Match Point...less adorable, but very watchable. And the Constant Gardener.

If I weren't an atheist, I would pray to Joe Pesci.  George Carlin already does...

And the Constant Gardener.

The title is very misleading....There isn't much gardening in this movie at all. Angry

I went to see Keith Levit at the Bannatyne campus yesterday. He did a lecture on his photography. Longer story.

There is this GREAT Theatre B, just past the Med Library. We were in it. Like WOO.

Could we book this place on a weekend, say, to view films and DVDs and such? Lovely, lovely space. Anyone familiar with it?

Also, Serena of the Arts Student body says any group that wants to come to their digs can do so and have a movie night.

Trevor, Serena also said they'd chip in for posters AND food.

And guess what? Serena is a lurker on this forum. Hey!

Hey y'all. I think, going with the theme of this forum, you'd all do well to check out SUNSHINE. by Danny Boyle

It's amazing, and it turned actor/ dreamboat Cillian Murphy into an atheist. I really liked it. And according to my couch companion, it works fine without paying attention to anything as annoying as 'themes'. But really, it's pretty science vs. fundamentalists. And since it's a movie, the scientists are all especially doe-eyed. I recommend it!

I wholeheartedly agree with this recommendation. This movie is so awesome. Once you get past the premise being a little far-fetched, it's a really good sci-fi, kind of like 2001 or Solaris and way better than the mainstream fare put out by Hollywood. It's the same director as 28 Days Later and Trainspotting by the way. I saw it twice in theatres and bought it the day it came out, I liked it so much.

Even though the basic story is that the sun is dying and they're on a mission to deliver a bomb to the star to put it back to normal, it's nowhere near as silly as The Core ("Hot damn!! We're going in!!").

In short, see it.

There's a brilliant movie in theatres now called There Will Be Blood. It's an epic film about an oilman in the early 20th century. Daniel Day-Lewis is such a great actor and it's directed by Paul Thomas Anderson who also directed Boogie Nights and Magnolia though it's not like either of those movies. And the music is by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead  Wink.

Hey Steve, i just saw "There Will Be Blood"  (spoiler! there *is* blood) today as a matinee. That was some score! It was aggressive, but very P.T.A....I liked "Punch Drunk Love", and to me this is like Anderson coming into his own even more...it's taking those notes of Adam Sandler's character, and turning the volume up to break windows. I really liked it. Daniel Day-Lewis can do no wrong. I was kind of comparing this movie to "No Country for Old Men"...the sweeping backdrops, the violence, the supermacho-craziness. Both cool movies.
