It would be awesome if this really advanced scientific understanding. It really shows how science works, you make a prediction and test it. If your prediction is confirmed by experiments, it supports your theory. My one problem is the rather unfortunate name of the thing. Religous types already have a sort of confused understanding of science at times, do we really need to be confusing them with talk of "God particles"? I can just imagine them taking the leap from "Higgs boson discovered" to "Jesus loves you"
