Ben Stein's summer clunker, Expelled, No Intelligence Allowed is set to start playing in Canada next week (June 27th).

Do we want to do anything to confront this attack on public knowledge?
I'm thinking we could ask theatres showing the movie if we could put up displays with information about the movie, Ben Stein's claims, and evolution in general, as well as provide pamphlets, and directions to and [url]http://www.talkorigins.org/]http://www.expelledexposed.com//url] and [url]http://www.talkorigins.org/.

Another option is to ignore it, reasoning that confronting them would make us "evilutionists" look scared of the competition, and lend them an air of actually having something the scientific world takes seriously.

Personally, I feel that if we ignore it, and even one person (not previously decided on the issue) comes away with their outlook perverted by the movie, that it would be a tragedy.

I think that we should just ignore it... I mean, from what I understand, it is a crappy movie with crappy reviews that bombed.  And the only people who are going to see it are religious groups who you can't reason with and atheists who are curious about the piece of crap and want to laugh at Ben Stein's idiocy.  And I really don't want to play into their persecution complex.

I refuse to pay full theatre rates for it.
If I see it at all, it will be at the Cinema City 8, on a Tuesday.  With a coupon.

Screw that... just pirate it.  Don't worry, Ben Stein won't be the victim, you will  Grin

That's hilarious...less than $25,000 for all of Canada.

Does anyone read Pharyngula?

You'd have to search through the archives, but author PZ Myers gave it a continual thrashing over what must have been a two-month period.

Yep.  He also got Expelled from it.  'twas entertaining, that.  And the Expelled crew's utter failure at damage control.
