Our first meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 25th at 7:00PM in 180 Helen Glass Centre.

The meeting will be a casual affair.  The room we have booked is not well equipped for a speaker or a presentation, so I'll pretty much just talk for a while about the group, why we decided to start up, and what we want to do in the upcoming year.  Then we'll all eat some pie and chat for a while, if you're interested.  The main reason for this quick meeting is to discern the level of interest in the group, and to get some people signed up to be members -- oddly enough, we need some (ten) U of M students in our group to be recognized by UMSU as a student group.  I expect the talk will take somewhere between twenty and forty minutes, perhaps more if there are questions, but we have the room booked until 9:30, so I encourage everyone to stay and chat (though you are of course not required to).

If you are planning to attend the meeting, we would appreciate if you would let us know (by replying to this post, sending a private message, or emailing us) so that we can bring an appropriate amount of delicious goods.

We hope to see you there!

I would really love to come, unfortunately I have Stats Tutoring that night.

But I'd love to know when any other meetings are. I was really wondering when a group for atheists/agnostics was finally going to start up.

So far, Tuesday doesn't work for three people that I know of, so it may not be the best day to hold the meeting.  There are a few timing issues in play here:

  • I would really like us to be registered student group in UMSU's eyes.  To do that, we need to have at least 10 members, 7 of which being U of M students.  The deadline for student group applications is October 1st.  FYI, there's no cost to join the group, but if you're a U of M student, I'll need your student number.
  • In addition to having 10 members, it would be a great help to me if someone was interested in joining the executive; this doesn't seem to be a requirement to apply for official student group status, but running the group is a bit of a daunting task for me to do alone.
  • Our constitution must be handed in with the application.  I have an outline done at the moment, but to be sure it will be ready before October, I'd like the first meeting to take place early next week.

So, there are some obstacles to changing the date/time, including the fact that flyers have already gone up advertising Tuesday.  Just to get a general idea though, for the people who aren't able to make Tuesday, would Monday or Wednesday be a possibility?  Would it be easier to meet earlier in the evening (around 4:30, when I figure most people have finished classes) rather than later?

I'm really pleased to see that there are people interested in joining the group!  I have to admit, those flyers can really get lost in the sea of other papers on bulletin boards and the like.  I can't wait to meet all of you and make the U of M a funner place to be!

I will most likely be able to make it on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, around 5:30 or later.

Monday or Wednesday would be great, preferably Wednesday, because I have a test at 5:30 on Monday. At 4:00-5:15 on Tuesdays/Thursdays I have Business/Government Relations, but I can afford to miss one of those classes to attend a meeting. The prof. doesn't really give very 'content rich' lectures. It's usually about increasing critical thinking awareness, (which is fine by me).

So, a 4:30 meeting on Tuesday would be fine, but I would have to get going by 5:30.

I would also be kinda interested in joining the executive, if there's any positions or whatever that need filling

The first post has been updated with some more information about the meeting.  It will go on Tuesday as planned.  If you are unable to attend on Tuesday but wish to join the group, please send me an email with your name and student number (if you have one).

I'll attend the meeting!
I'll post a reply as to who I actually am in the introduction thread.

I'm glad to see that there is interest in this kind of group Smiley
