If you haven't yet seen the flyers posted up around campus, the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship is hosting a free lunch and philosophical discussion on Wednesday, November 21, from 11 am - 1 pm in the Grad Student Lounge on the 2nd floor of University Centre.  If you plan to go, call 781-4770 or give a quick email to umcfstudents@hotmail.com

The discussion topic is "Can you be intelligent and still have faith?"  This is no doubt a loaded topic: is there even a way to disagree with this and not offend most of the attendees?  The important point will be how intelligence is defined; I would associate a drive to search for new information as intelligence, and faith is in direct opposition of that.

It might be an interesting thing to check out, and possibly discuss if the atmosphere is welcoming.  I will endeavour to show up at around 11:30 (I have labs until then), so if anyone else is planning to attend, I'll see you there!

Unfortunately, I work at that time, so I won't be able to make it to this one.

As to the question, I wouldn't disagree with the statement. It is entirely possible to be intelligent, but honestly mistaken. Even then, I can't say for a guarantee that they are wrong, although I'm pretty sure they are.

I'm just amused that they offer free lunch, but then expect those in attendance to practically listen to a sermon (as I can tell that non-Christian attendance will be slim, and it will be likely preaching to the choir). There truly is no such thing as a free lunch!

Even our group lured people in with the promise of punch and pie! (Although I like to think that people would still have come otherwise)

I won't be able to make it either as it falls right in the middle of my day. Might have been interesting, although I generally find the idea of those events to just be kind of creepy. But share your findings with us, Trevor!

I'll write up a little report after... though I am frightened.  Oh well, free lunch?

Remember my friend, no such thing. There's always a catch.

Well, if I had the time, I'd probably go with you. Just for shits and giggles. Although it would be impolite to giggle, and even more impolite to shit. Darn it.

Anyone check it out?  I was thinking about it, but I had a class and a crapload of homework

Incidentally, I noticed that one of our movie night posters put up on the engineering bulletin board in the basement next to one of theirs was missing today... just food for thought

I was going to check it out as well, but I got pulled away by other matters... I happened to be walking by on the way to my other things, and it looked pretty sparsely populated.

Actually, of the 11 posters I put up in University Centre, at least 5 are missing.  I had them stamped by Answers and anything.  In the future, we should keep closer track of which get removed so that we can talk to the various groups that control the bulletin boards to see if they took them down for some reason.
